Contigo AUTOSEAL Stainless Steel Travel Mugs Review
I confess. I am an addict. And the drug that I’m addicted to is available in every supermarket and restaurant I patronize in the form of caffeine.
Each day the amount of coffee I drink don’t go by cups. This is because I drink it throughout the day… slowly sipping little by little… and taking a mouthful every now and then just to please my taste buds…
It could very well be a bucket a day. I don’t know.
Sometimes, I shudder at the thought of the amount of coffee I consume on a daily basis. Even when the possibility (if any) of it affecting my health in the long term, I’m totally prepared to face the consequences because I cannot imagine life without my “precious”.
In view of this, I take steps to minimize any exposure I might have in consuming too much coffee and the substances that come with it.
The most obvious step is to have various sources of where my coffee comes from. This means I rotate the many ways and places I get them. For example:
- Making it myself with coffee powder, sugar, evaporated milk, and creamer
- Making it myself with various brands of instant coffee
- Buying from different coffee houses
- Getting takeaways from cafes like Starbucks
This means that on a regular day, I would get my “fix” from 3 different sources if I have 3 servings that day.
Of course I have my favorite and would like to have all my coffee in that. But I stick to this rotating law of drinking coffee. This is my own way of diversifying the risks of contracting some bad health conditions from having too much of one thing.
If you are a heavy drinker like me, I believe that you can empathize with this weird habit. And you probably like your coffee warm rather than cold.
This is why vacuum insulated mugs make perfect sense when you don’t consume a single serving at one go. Ideally, you want to maintain the temperature throughout the day, or at least until you are down to your final mouthful.
And since you will be bring along the coffee pretty wherever you go, a mug that is durable for travel will be all the better.
Contigo’s stainless steel travel mug with Autoseal fits the bill perfectly. With its sleek design, some people might call it a tumbler. Whatever you call it, it serves it’s purpose as best as you can imagine.

Drawbacks of Contigo AUTOSEAL Stainless Steel Mug
If you have used any vacuum flask, bottle or mug before, you will already know the biggest drawback of these things. It concerns the hygiene factor.
The bulk of new technologies that go into these products go into the seal, or some might call it “cap”. And because of the structural design of their seals to incorporate the technology, there will almost always be hard to reach places that dirt might collect.
The seal for this mug is no different. This is a common problem for all such products. Contigo is not able to eliminate this little inconvenience altogether.
So remember to regularly rinse, soak, and clean the mug, especially the seal if you don’t want your mug to be a breeding ground for bacteria.
It is something you ought to do anyway.
And although the various available colors look posh, I’m actually surprised that there are not any funkier and brighter colors available. With that in mind, this product is probably created more for indoor use like in the office, and less for outdoor sports activities like being strapped to a bicycle.
But if you love it, no one can stop you from bringing it along wherever you go.
Is the Contigo AUTOSEAL Mug worth the money?
Vacuum mugs are one of those products that you tend to buy every once in a while to replace your existing one. Sort of like a smart phone. You either buy a better one, or you buy another just to replace your current one.
The longer you hold onto one, the more you get tired of it. You can’t really expect a vacuum mug to last forever… especially with the hygiene issue which occurs to all such products as explained previously.
So if you feel that it’s time to replace your current mug, this is a great one to get as a replacement. If you are getting your first vacuum mug, this is a good one to start with.
And if you are happy with your current mug, just keep Contigo in mind when the time for replacement arrives. It will come eventually.
